Your New Business Guide

Cassandra James (Thomas) is a children's author, youth development leader, and systems developer committed to creating the conditions that help young people, families, schools, and communities thrive. Her passion for this work began at an early age in a make-believe classroom, where she taught lessons to her dolls. What started as childhood imagination became a lifelong calling to invest in the lives of others and strengthen the systems that shape their futures.

Throughout her career, Cassandra has partnered with organizations and leaders to design systems, strengthen programs, and develop strategies that improve outcomes for children, youth, and families. She has also served in leadership roles across several New York City nonprofits and the New York City Department of Education, where she directed in-school and after-school programs while developing the professionals who support them.

Today, Cassandra partners with Baltimore City Public Schools to advance the Community Schools strategy, supporting school-based teams as they strengthen partnerships and expand access to the relationships, resources, and opportunities that help students, families, and communities thrive.

Whether she is writing stories, advising leaders, developing professionals, or strengthening organizations, Cassandra is guided by one purpose: helping others recognize their value, embrace their potential, and pursue lives filled with possibility.

Her debut children's book, Believe, is a natural extension of that mission. Through its uplifting message of perseverance and self-belief, Cassandra encourages young readers to discover the limitless potential within themselves. She hopes every reader closes the book knowing that believing in themselves is the first step toward becoming everything they were created to be.

When she's not writing or serving communities, Cassandra enjoys traveling, curating her personal style, engaging in meaningful conversations about life, laughing loudly, living unapologetically, and creating lasting memories with family and friends.
